Domain names are unique - there can only be one identical domain name at any given time across the entire world. So if www.mydomainname.com is taken, no one else can use it as long as it remains active in the World Wide directory.
Country extensions - if you live in Canada, you can register a .ca domain. So if someone else already has your preferred .com name, and they won't be competition with you in your service area, then you can certainly register that one.
Your domain name should contain words that are relevant to your business if possible (www.bestwidgetmaker.com, even though you might be called ABC Widgets).

We partner with a well-known Canadian Domain Name Registrar to offer domain name registration at competitive rates in Canadian funds. Although there are some cheaper domain registration places out there, the small difference in cost will be well worth it so that we can do all the technhical steps for you! Unless you are a web expert and can easily navigate around third party Registrar websites, and you understand how to update name servers, the small difference per year is probably really not worth the hassle for you!

Domain name registration is paid yearly, in advance, and is not refundable. In order to ensure that you do not lose your domain name when it comes time to renewal, we will automatically renew your domain name unless you ask us in advance to cancel it.

Different "Extensions" have different fees structures. The rates we charge are based on what we pay out to a third party Registrar on behalf of our clients. Although the domain name is the smallest expense of the whole website process, it is actually the most important- if the domain name expires, your website will no longer be visible on the internet.
